Morning verse : Hebrews 8:3-13

Better is a word that soothes the mind so well, especially after several unfruitful attempts to achieve a particular feat. This was true of the Israelites of old who under the old covenant predicated on the blood of bulls and goats kept falling and failing. God kept finding fault with them (as revealed in verse eight of our text this morning) and kept swallowing the bitter pills of their inadequacies until He changed the priesthood from Levitical (according to the order of Aaron) to a better one (after the order of Melchizedek). The covenant also changed from old (sealed by the blood of bulls and goats) to new (sealed by the blood of Jesus). The promises also changed for the better which guarantee better things. Hallelujah! (v6). The content of the covenant is simple. The law will no longer be written on the tablet of stone but now on the tablet of hearts. The people of God will now live on the strength of inner grace and not by works. Then, the activation of the blessing can be made sure. Better and better and better still shall life continually become because we have found grace. Hallelujah. It is real. Let us appropriate the blood of Jesus and be blessed by the “better”. Amen.

Evening verse : Jeremiah 31:31-34

For the second time, we are reading God's plan and programme for the latter days not just for Israel but for everyone in Christ Jesus whether Jew or non-Jew. In short, the programme targets the body of Christ, the Church. The crux of the plan is that God speaks to His Church through His Spirit living within them rather than through the written law that could not help the Israel of old. The spiritual Israel, the Church, is on a better pedestal of relationship with her God. Through His Spirit, He, as highlighted in our text tonight, puts His law in their inward parts, and writes it in their hearts. He is their God and they are His people. What a blessing! Child of God, enjoy and maximise this better platform of relating with God which is laced with grace, glory and power. Remember, we have this treasure (Holy Spirit) in earthen vessels (believers in Christ), that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us!
