Yesterday, we saw the need to have the right person (the Holy Spirit) to accompany us if we must make a success of life's journey. We were therefore able to answer the pertinent question of “Who is with you on the journey?” Today we are looking at the question of why travel on this journey? This is the question which addresses purpose. Life's journey is considered a success when we finish at the desired end in a desired fashion. The desired end for a child of God is the feet of Christ and the desired fashion is appearing before Christ with the 'tasks-accomplished.' We did not come to the world to mark a register. We were born to carry out specific assignments and fulfil prescribed tasks. Jesus understood this and was quick at discovering and revealing his assignment on earth in our text this morning. Have we discovered our assignment on earth? Do we understand our reason for living? Understanding life's purpose makes success of life's journey inevitable. Like Jesus, let us search and find the purpose for living. If we have, already, then let us live in its reality. When used for God's glory and the benefit of mankind our area of expertise is a pointer to purpose. The One with us, the Holy Spirit, is called the Helper. Together with Him we have assurance of success. Then, we will be able to say like Paul: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”! Hallelujah!Evening verse : Judges 13:2-5
The assignment the Lord gave Samson to fulfill on earth was straight forward. He was to deliver Israel from the hands of the Philistines (v5). So important was the knowledge of this purpose that it had to be revealed and established before he was conceived. Child of God, purpose known is an order known. A purposeless life is like a ship without a rudder on the high sea loosed around aimlessly and without order. Again, tonight, the Lord appeals to us to discover, pursue and succeed by purpose."
